Riviera dei Pini

It was lovely here on Camping Isuledda but today we are leaving. We have breakfast and get packed. At 11:30pm we are on the road. The plan is to explore the east coast which we don‘t know so far. The route takes us back to Olbia where we stop at the supermarket to stock up. Then we take the SS125 southbound. Shortly before Porto San Paolo we catch sight of the Isola Tavolara, a mighty rocky island, and drive into the village to take some photos.

Further south we go until about 3km before Posada where we turn left to the beach Riviera Dei Pini. Here we intend to spend the night. It is very windy but we find a spot which suits us: with sun, sea view and some protection from the wind. We have our afternoon snack which today is octopus salad and then go for a walk on the beach. There is not much to do here for us, the water is not tempting us but we enjoy a lazy afternoon. After an early dinner we get prepared for the night. Today it is the first time we are setting up our brand new camping toilet. Let‘s see how it works ;-)

The wind has died down during the night and we wake to another sunny day. After having used the „thrown“ successfully we intend to have breakfast. We unwrap the delicious prosciutto cotto we had bought the other day and are attacked by at least a dozen wasps. They like the prosciutto as well... we sacrifice a small piece of it and move the table down to the beach. This is better!

Then we get packed and leave. Today we are planning to make a side trip into the mountains which our guide book recommends and which I thought might make a lovely bicycle trip as well. We drive to Siniscola and from there the road ascents in many curves and bends to about 850m above sea level. On the way there are many beautiful views.

Up in the mountains it is very windy and rather cool. We fill our bottles at Funtana Sa Mela and continue to Lula. It is a very scenic drive but the road hardly ever goes straight. Close to Lula we fill all our water tanks at another source and make our way down to the SS131 and back to Siniscola. It would make a good but also demanding bicycle tour. You would need to bring something warm to wear as it‘s cool up there and enough food as there is nothing much where you could stock up. Water is available.

From Siniscola we go back to the SS125 and continue further south. We check out the beach at Capo Comino which is really beautiful with a snow white sand dune and a little calm bay but decide to go a bit further to Spiaggia Berchida as the description in the guide book sounds very good.

After turning off the main road it‘s about 3km down a sand Piste then we reach a large parking area where some ten caravans are parked. We check out the beach which has lovely fine white sand but in total this is not our kind of paradise so we drive on. Next we try Camping Osalla Beach close to Orosei but it is closed already. There are a number of caravans parked behind the beach next to it. We check it out but it is VERY windy so again we drive on.

Now we make it for Cala Gonone to the Camping Cala Gonone. We are lucky, it is still open. There are many tents here, the place is popular with climbers. We make it for the shower and then walk the few steps into town looking for a place to have dinner. We end up in the „Road House Blues“ and are very happy with our choice. The food is very good!
