Monte Tonneri

Unfortunately the shop at the Camping has now closed down for this year so I take the bicycle to get bread from a small store some blocks from the beach. Everything they sell looks fresh, regional and seasonal. Yummie. After breakfast we get packed once more and start into the mountains. It is a bit cloudy but we are going to try it anyway. On our way we pass by a few pink bicycles. These are the remains of the Giro d'Italia that was passing through here in May this year.

Via Loceri and Lanusei the road ascents again on a very curvy road and offers beautiful views over Tortoli and Arbatax. When we take a left turn to get to Lago Alto de Flumendosa the road gets narrower. Then we are supposed to take another left to get to Monte Perda Liana, a stony outcrop where we want to walk a bit. But we turn back after a short while as the road deteriorates... there are some big and deep holes in the tarmac. We follow what we think is our route but realize soon that this is wrong. Either we take the one with the deep wholes or turn back altogether. We go for the holes and luckily the first bit seems to be the worst.

We reach the parking and change into long pants and shirts as it is windy and cool here. Up we walk towards Monte Perda Liana and around it. The scenery is great and slowly the clouds clear and there is more and more sun! After a bit more than an hour we are back at the Bulli and continue our tour.

The road winds it’s way through the mountains and every now and then offers stunning views of the peak we have just visited. Several times there are cows, sheep, goats or horses on the road - but hardly any cars.

At the Nuraghe Ardasai which is just next to the road we make another stop. The only other visitors are some goats. It is very windy but it is mostly sunny now and we enjoy the beautiful landscape. But the sun is quite low already and so from now on we are keeping an eye open for a suitable spot to spend the night. It‘s not so easy...

Finally we find a dirt track which is in a reasonable condition for our Bulli. We follow it for a bit and settle on a reasonably level patch. It is too cold and windy to spend a lot of time outside so we prepare and eat dinner inside today.

Unfortunately the wind gets ever stronger and it shakes the Bulli quite a bit... Not good. We won‘t be able to sleep well. Finally at around 10:30pm we pack up again and set out to find a more protected place. Luckily we find one not far away. It is right next to the road which is not really what we like but there is hardly any wind here so we stay.
