Mar Azul

Boy this was a long drive. From PP Ischigualasto down to Mar Azul we drove more than 1500 km in two days. Yes, as you might have guessed from other posts on our homepage the distances in this part of the world are really huge ...

But of course, we can’t leave Argentina without visiting our dear friends Sergio and Sunky who we met in 2013. On this last trip to Argentina we lived in the same building for one month in Buenos Aires and met at the pool on the rooftop of the house. In the meantime they are renting out their apartment in Buenos Aires to permanently live here at the coast.

On our trips through Argentina we did have a few Parillada (Argentinian version of barbecue) but usually in a restaurant. While they did taste quite good it is not comparable by any means to what Sergio and Sunky prepare for us. Take some fire wood to produce hot coil on the side that you use to very slowly grill the meat and sausages. The calculation is approximately 1 kg meat per person plus some salad and a good bottle of Argentinian wine.

The quality of meat is fantastic and of course Sergio and Sunky did a fantastic job in preparing it for us. What almost amazes us even more is the fact hat we pretty much ate up everything. Truly unbelievable ...

The only thing however, you can do after eating all this great food is to go to the beach, have a mate and take a sun bath. Don’t even think about doing anything else! ;-)

We really enjoy the time together with our friends who we didn’t see for a long time. It is great to see that they are doing well and enjoying life. We need to work on this a bit harder to be able to retire sooner rather than later.

While we are in Mar Azul Karin get’s another course on how to make empanadas. Sunky provides step by step guidance on how to make the filling and then wrap them into what becomes an empanada. Something we definitely will do once we are back home again because they taste so good. Sergio in the meantime is heating up the newly made and very typical oven outside. It is the very first time they use it to make empanadas. So he is watching it closely that nothing goes wrong.

Of course the oven passes the first empanada test and we get another great meal served. Should we have lost a few kilo on our trip so far there is no doubt in our minds that after the few days in Mar Azul everything is back in place.

For Karin it is the last chance to go shopping here in Argentina before we head back home. Sergio and Sunky are fantastic shopping guides and advisors. Of course she finds some nice new bags that women can’t have enough anyway. ;-)

A wonderful trip comes to an end. We need to say good by to Sunky and Sergio and return our 4x4 camper van in Buenos Aires. A taxi takes us back to the airport and after one month traveling through Argentina we are taking a long flight back home.

We are really thankful that we can do trips like this, have friends such as Sunky and Sergio and there is no doubt in our minds whatsoever that we will come back to this fantastic continent. There is still plenty of things to explore in Argentina alone not to mention all the other countries in South America we have not explored yet.

Stay tuned and watch this space. Thanks again to Sergio and Sunky for being great hosts and dear friends. See you hopefully soon!
