Grota Su Marmuri

The night was really cold and we had to use all our blankets to stay warm but at least the wind was not disturbing us. There is hardly any sun where we are parked so we are planning to have breakfast somewhere else. Just as we are about to go a shepherd in a car leads his herd of sheep past our Bulli :-)

After a short drive we find a place with a beautiful view where we have our breakfast. Inside the Bulli, as it is still windy and cold. With this conditions we decide to go back down towards the coast as it is warmer there.

We stop in Ulassai to visit the Grota Su Marmuri. The small town lies in a beautiful setting at the foot of a tall stone wall. The next tour through the caves is only in two hours so we go for a walk in the nearby forest. We pass several picnic sites and there seems to be quite an extensive network of dirt tracks. Good territory for some mountain biking.

Then it is time for the tour. First we climb quite some stairs and then we descent into the cave. The entrance is huge and so are all the chambers or rather halls of the cave. Also the stalagmites are huge here, some are half a million years old. Amazing. After an hour the tour ends and we turn back. Although I have enjoyed the tour I am now longing for sunlight.

Next we want to visit the weaver‘s cooperative which is mentioned in the guide book but unfortunately we are not able to find it. We continue to Jerzu where we buy two bottles of the local Cannonau and then drive down to the coast. We are not stopping at Camp Area Sosta Cucamonga as according to the guide book it has only cold showers but continue to Camping Coccorrocci at the end of the road at Capo Sferracavallo. We have a beer on the stony beach and then cook dinner.
