Cape Town Area

After one month on the road and driving 777 km in total we arrive in Cape Town. Here we are going to spend another week, relaxing from all the driving, visiting friends and do some wine tasting. Before we do all of this we return our car. A big crag in the windscreen is concerning us. This we picked up on a gravel road just before Lüderitz. Luckily the insurance covers this so we don't have to pay extra. Here we switch to an old type 1 VW Golf. Feels very strange after spending a whole month in this rather big car. This, however, is enough for what we are doing here.

We booked a B&B on the slopes of the table mountain with a nice view across Cape Town, a pretty nice room and a fridge full of good drinks. Unfortunately the last couple of days our malaria pills caused us diarrhea, especially for Michael. Not really problem now that we have a proper bath and toilette again. However, the bath/toilette does not have any doors to close ...

When Karin was living for 6 months in Stellenbosch she met Andrey. He is from here and as it happens he is visiting his parents over Christmas. He now lives in the UK. As he is around we join him at his parents place and get served home made pizza from their own pizza oven. Together with his girl friend Diane from Ireland we also go on a wine tasting tour around Stellenbosch. While we get to taste quite good wine we also discover some great brandy.

Needless to mention that we take a drive around the Chapman's Peak Drive, visit the penguins at Bolders Beach, drive to Cape of Good Hope, Cape Point, False Bay and Hout Bay. Last but not least we browse through Cape Town, do a bit of shopping (Karin that is) and go out for nice meals.

A fantastic trip has come to an end when we pack our stuff again and make our way back to the airport. Luckily we fly business class so that we don't have any problems with all the luggage and souveniers we have collected over the last few weeks. With a last drink we salute to Southern Africa as the plane takes off into the evening sky. Lot's of pictures, memories and the wish to come back at some point.
